A Journey Through Time and Taste: The Limited Edition of Antica Dolceria Rizza for Its 80th Anniversary
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of Antica Dolceria Rizza, a limited edition has been created to honor four extraordinary figures from Italian culture: Peppino Rizza, Gesualdo Bufalino, Leonardo Sciascia, and Salvatore Quasimodo. Each bar tells a story, a deep connection to the land and tradition, choosing a single-origin cocoa variety for each that reflects their heritage and their thought.
Modica chocolate, now appreciated and known worldwide, has roots that go back to the 1700s. It was thanks to the Spanish conquistadors, who brought with them the art of chocolate they had learned from the Aztecs, that this delicacy arrived in the County of Modica. Over the centuries, it was thanks to the dedication of local master chocolatiers that the art of chocolate survived and was perfected, preserving its artisanal craftsmanship, which today has become a true symbol of Sicilian tradition.
The magic of the process lies in its ancient recipe from 1746, still meticulously followed by Antica Dolceria Rizza. A process that does not involve high temperatures or chocolate refinement through conching and tempering. The cocoa mass, obtained directly by grinding the beans without removing the natural cocoa butter, is mixed with granulated sugar, maintaining all the organoleptic properties of the cocoa intact. The result is chocolate with an opaque texture and whitish hues, a distinctive feature of the "primordial" processing that preserves the genuineness and richness of the flavor.
In this Limited Edition, each character is honored with a single-origin cocoa variety chosen to reflect their essence:
- Peppino Rizza is honored with cacao from Santo Domingo, known for its rich, aromatic flavor, which perfectly ties to Sicilian tradition.
- Gesualdo Bufalino is represented by single-origin cocoa from Peru, refined and complex, just like his writing.
- Leonardo Sciascia is celebrated with single-origin cocoa from Ghana, robust and intense, evoking his deep roots and his incisive social narrative.
- Salvatore Quasimodo, Nobel laureate in literature, finds his tribute in single-origin cocoa from Uganda, deep and poetic, just like his work.
This exclusive collection is not just a testament to gastronomic excellence, but a sensory journey that combines history, culture, and unique flavors. Each bar tells a story, a meeting of tradition and literature, through the incomparable taste of Modica chocolate.
A perfect gift, or simply a moment to dedicate to yourself to celebrate the art of chocolate and the great personalities who have marked Italian culture.
